Belle Fourche Middle School Gymnasium
The Belle Fourche Middle School began preparing for this year’s Veterans’ Day program. They will be featuring the National Guard as our special featured presentation. BFMS seventh grade students heard speakers from the National Guard in small and large groups, beginning their program planning and gathering information to create the program.
On Tuesday, October 20th, Vern Bills of Belle Fourche visited with students about the work of the National Guard, especially the 842nd, in times of need in this area, including the Rapid City Flood in 1972. Students were able to interview Mr. Bills about his experiences in the Guard and gained a new appreciation for what the National Guard has done for our state.
On Thursday, October 22nd, the South Dakota National Guard State Historian, Durward “Duke” Doering, and members of the 842nd Engineering Company, Blaine Anderson and Nathan Juelfs, presented to the 7th grade on the proud history of the South Dakota National Guard from World War II to present day.
These classroom experiences help students prepare for our program on November 11, 2015, at 2 PM in the BFMS Gymnasium. Students from the middle school will also host a program for Veterans at the Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center on the morning of the 11th.
